On 21 October, the Austrian auction of spectrum in the 800, 900 and 1800Mhz bands ended with the three incumbent mobile operators winning the available frequencies and paying slightly more than 2bn euro for a total of 140MHz of paired spectrum. The process used a Combinatorial Clock Auction format. The auction was initially intended to be held in 2012, but had been delayed because of the acquisition by Hutchison 3G Austria of Orange Austria.
Detailed information about the result and the background of the award process is available on the website of the Austrian telecoms regulator RTR.
DotEcon advised RTR on the auction design and assisted with the detailed auction rules.
