DotEcon, together with AviaSolutions, has been appointed by the Department for Transport to undertake a study on alternative allocation mechanisms for new airport capacity.
This will involve assessing the possibilities for reform of the current administrative allocation mechanisms as well as developing market-based allocation mechanisms using auctions. The project team will conduct discussions with industry stakeholders to assess the practicability of alternative mechanisms. In 2001, DotEcon reviewed the potential use of auctions for slot allocation in a study prepared for HM Treasury and the Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions .
