DotEcon, in partnership with InterConnect Communications, has just concluded an assignment for Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS – trading as Etisalat Nigeria), providing specialist support and advice in the implementation of a number of regulatory initiatives.
One of five GSM mobile operators in the country, Etisalat Nigeria acquired its licence in January 2007 and sought assistance in three main areas: Asymmetric Interconnection (international benchmarking, calculation of potential impact on Etisalat Nigeria and preparation of a cost model), Infrastructure Sharing (market analyses, international benchmarking, modelling the cost effects on the business plan for co-location and access to transmission and preparation of a cost model to support the adoption of a National Roaming strategy); and Mobile Number Portability (MNP) (production of a concept framework and market survey, international benchmarking and technical feasibility studies and assisting with technical, administrative and commercial aspects of MNP implementation).
