DotEcon successfully designed and implemented an auction for the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry, to allocate licences for salmon, trout and rainbow trout farming. There was a total of 27,189 tonnes of production capacity available for allocation, and 42 registered bidders. The auction used a clock auction format with provisions for submission of exit bids linked to demand reductions. In the event all of the available capacity was sold to 30 bidders, raising record revenue of NOK 6 billion, with about 10% of total capacity allocated through exit bids. More information about the auction can be found on the Norwegian Fisheries Directorate’s website.
