NZ Commerce Commission blocks Sky-Vodafone merger

New Zealand’s Commerce Commission has declined to grant clearance for the proposed merger of Sky Network Television and Vodafone New Zealand.  As the Commission stated in its media release, the submissions it had received in response to its Letter of Unresolved Issues (published in October last year) had not addressed its concerns that the proposed transaction could substantially lessen competition in the broadband and telecommunications markets.  A full text of the decision will be published in due course.

DotEcon supported Spark with its submissions to the Commerce Commissions’ inquiry.
