PTS completes 2.6GHz spectrum auction using DotEcon’s WebBidder system

On Thursday 8 May 2008, the auction held by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) to award frequencies in the 2.6GHz band finished after 112 rounds of bidding over 16 days, reaching an aggregate value for the licences of SEK 2,099,450,000 (approx. 226 million Euro), excluding administrative charges (SEK 25,000 per MHz). PTS auctioned 14 2×5 MHz FDD blocks, and one 50 MHz TDD block, using an auction format similar to that employed by the Norwegian NPT, the first spectrum manager in Europe to complete the award of frequencies in this band. All licences are technology and service neutral.

The auction was implemented using DotEcon’s WebBidder system, which supports remote bidding over the public Internet while offering strong security features. For more information about WebBidder click here.

All bidders who participated in the auction were awarded a licence. The TDD block was awarded to Intel Capital Corporation, while Tele2 Sverige AB, Telenor Sverige AB and TeliaSonera Mobile Networks AB were awarded four FDD blocks each, and HI3G Access AB was awarded two FDD blocks. More details about the results of the auction are available from PTS’ website.
