Start of the Indian BWA auction

On 24 May bidding commenced in the auction of spectrum in the 2.3GHz band in India using DotEcon’s WebBidder software. Eleven applicants were qualified by India’s Department of Telecommunications to bid for spectrum in this auction. The auction will allocate up to two 20MHz blocks of spectrum in India’s 22 telecoms circles.

Government owned operators MTNL and BSNL are not permitted to take part in the auction; they have been reserved BWA spectrum in their respective operating areas, and will pay the price for this spectrum established in the auction.
DotEcon, together with N.M. Rothschild (India) advised the Indian government on the award process. The auction uses a novel clock auction designed by DotEcon and is implemented using DotEcon’s WebBidder auction platform. DotEcon is also acting as auction administrator.
